1. Who we are
ExamEdge (“we”, “us”) provides an AI-powered adaptive practice platform for IB Computer Science and Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science students, teachers, and parents, at examedge.app. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it’s used.
2. Information we collect
- Account information. For teacher, parent, and admin accounts (created via our authentication provider, Clerk): name, email address, and account role.
- Roster student accounts. Students who join a class via a teacher-issued class code do not create their own account or provide an email address. We store only a display name and a class-assigned secret word, created by the teacher on the student’s behalf.
- Practice and progress data. Questions attempted, answers submitted, scores, AI-generated marking feedback, and a per-topic weakness/progress profile used to recommend further practice.
- Parent–child links. If a parent account is linked to a student’s account (with the student’s or teacher’s cooperation), the parent can view that student’s progress summaries.
3. How we use this information
- To generate practice questions and mark submitted answers.
- Submitted answers are sent to our AI processing provider, OpenRouter, which routes requests to underlying AI models (including models from Google and Meta) to generate marking feedback. Reference material we use to ground question generation (syllabus content, past papers, mark schemes) is separately processed by an embeddings provider, Voyage AI — student answers are not stored in that reference index.
- To track topic-level progress and recommend targeted practice (“drills”).
- To send service communications, such as a weekly progress digest to linked parent accounts.
- To operate free/paid usage tiers and enforce the limits associated with each.
4. Children’s privacy
Some users of ExamEdge are school students who may be under 18, and roster student accounts (created by a teacher via a class code) are specifically designed to avoid collecting an email address or other direct personal identifier from the child — only a display name and a secret word assigned by their teacher. We do not knowingly collect more personal information from children than is necessary to provide the practice and marking service. Parents, guardians, and schools may contact us (see Section 8) to review, correct, or request deletion of a student’s data.
5. Cookies
- Our authentication provider, Clerk, sets session cookies to keep signed-in accounts logged in.
- A signed session cookie keeps roster student logins working without requiring an email account.
- A preview cookie lets teacher/admin accounts temporarily preview the student view of the app; it is not used for tracking or advertising.
6. Third parties we work with
Clerk (authentication), Supabase (database hosting), OpenRouter (AI question generation and marking), Voyage AI (reference-material embeddings), and Vercel (application hosting). We do not sell personal data to third parties.
7. Data retention and deletion
We retain account and progress data for as long as the account is active. Account holders (or a parent/school on behalf of a student) may request deletion of an account and its associated data at any time by contacting us.
8. Contact
Questions about this policy, or requests to access/correct/delete data, can be sent to info@examedge.app.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves (for example, when payment processing is introduced). Material changes will be reflected by an updated “last updated” date above.
